Job Overview Wabtec Corporation is seeking a Locomotive Materials Specialist to support the maintenance fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives at an Amtrak facility. The role combines exceptional materials management, logistics support, and continuous customer interaction to ensure locomotive repairs are always available. Responsibilities Provide onsite materials management and logistics support to keep the customer fleet operating at optimal levels. Pull materials from the warehouse, perform weekly stockouts, and conduct daily cycle counts to address inventory inconsistencies. Assist forecasting of material needs for inbound and in‑shop locomotives, ensure quality control processes for inbound and outbound shipments, and arrange LTL and expedite shipments. Utilize software programs for ordering, receiving, shipping, and tracking materials, interpret mechanical drawings, and operate forklifts during daily shift inspections. Coordinate physical inventory counting and fulfill all other assigned job duties with precision. Qualifications High school diploma / GED. Basic mathematical calculation ability. Previous logistics or shipping/receiving experience. Experience safely operating forklifts and other shop equipment. Experience with inventory software and Microsoft applications. Wabtec Materials Certification Training within 12 months from hire date. Flexible work schedule, including various shifts, on multiple days as required. Typical Day & Shift Schedule The position is onsite at 1600 S. Lumber St., Chicago, IL. The schedule is 12‑hour overnight shifts with the following recurring pattern: Sunday: Off Monday: Off Tuesday: Off Wednesday (alternate week only): 6:00 pm – 6:00 am Thursday morning Thursday: 6:00 pm – 6:00 am Friday morning Friday: 6:00 pm – 6:00 am Saturday morning Saturday: 6:00 pm – 6:00 am Sunday morning Physical Demands Standing and walking throughout the day on hard, uneven surfaces. Walking up and down stairs and climbing on/off locomotives. Wearing required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day. Operating a computer and typing. Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row as required. Benefits & Pay Salary range: $20.00 – $30.00/hr.
