Position Summary: At Plastic Distributors & Fabricators (PDF), the Quality Inspector ensures that all components and assemblies meet stringent quality standards and customer specifications. This role requires proficiency in operating and programming. Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to accurately interpret engineering drawings. Responsibilities include conducting first article, in-process, and final inspections, utilizing precision measuring instruments, and collaborating with production and engineering teams to maintain and enhance product quality. Position Overview: The Quality inspector Inspects parts and materials to assure established standards of quality are maintained. Ensures the quality of workmanship and compliance with specifications on various piece parts and assemblies by making dimensional and mechanical inspections. Key Responsibilities: CMM Operation and Programming: Program & operate CMM equipment (e.g., Zeiss Calypso, PC-DMIS) to perform accurate measurements of complex machine parts. Maintain CMM equipment, ensuring regular calibration and proper functioning. Inspection and Measurement: Conduct thorough inspections of components using various precision measuring instruments, including CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators. Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections to verify product conformity to specifications. Document inspection results accurately and maintain comprehensive records in accordance with quality management systems. Technical Interpretation and Communication: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications, in accordance with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Communicate inspection results and quality issues effectively to production, engineering, quality teams and, where necessary, customers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards Participate in internal audits and support continuous improvement initiatives Assist in training production personnel in quality standards and inspection procedures. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Quality Inspector in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Preferred Qualifications/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in Quality Assurance, Plastic Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and experience conducting capability studies. Exposure to aerospace, life sciences or defense manufacturing standards. Work Environmental & Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods (8 hours). Regularly required to lift, carry, and maneuver parts or materials up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity to handle small parts, tooling, and measuring instruments. The ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, shoes, gloves, and hearing protection.
